Rachelle Van der Loos

Well, the last ten years has been somewhat eventful for me. After leaving school, I went straight to uni and completed a BA in Criminology and Criminal Justice. I did however, have little idea of what I truly wanted to do. I worked here and there while at uni, lived down the coast for a good 12 months and finally settled back in Brisbane in my final year. Along the way I met Craig, my better half, and settled down into home and working life.

Kai and Me

In January 2003, we welcomed the arrival of our first beautiful boy, Kai Blake. He was a whopper and weighed a huge 11pd 2oz when born, but was well worth the long and exhausting effort. It was while Kai was a baby and I was at home that I decided to do my teaching degree.

I began teaching grade 7 at Greenbank SS and at the completion of that year found out I was pregnant with my second bundle of joy. With this in mind, I decided to go part-time and worked 2006 teaching grade 2 at Wynnum West SS.

Will - 1st Christmas 2006

In August of last year, we welcomed the arrival of our second beautiful boy, Will Conor. A much easier delivery and slightly smaller at 9pd 8oz. Since our family has been complete, I have been enjoying being an at home mum, however do miss the frequence of adult conversation. Although I do enjoy teaching, I'm not sure that's what I want to do for the rest of my life. Hopefully, by our twenty year reunion I may have some idea.

Although I have been in contact with a few girls it will be great to catch up with others and hear everyone's interesting adventures. Boy, ten years does go fast. See you soon.

To bring you up to speed on my perspective of the last 10 years: After leaving school I started a science degree at UQ, along with a lot of others from our grade! I finished in 2000 with a major in physiology. Realising that there weren't many jobs out there for physiologists, I soon began a teaching degree, and qualified in 2003 as a senior biology teacher. This time there were quite a few jobs, but i soon realised that I didn't really want to be a teacher...just yet. So I worked for 6 months or so and then found myself back at uni, this time at QUT. After a hard slog I finished my Masters in Medical Engineering late last year, and started wondering what type of job i should take, other than becoming a professional student!
In my home life, I met my husband, Ian, in first year uni, and married him in April last year at North Straddie. It was a fantastic week! We also bought a cute little house on the south side in 2004, and can't wait to begin renovations.
Currently we are living in Calgary, Canada, where I found a job at the hospital/uni as a research scientist. We are having a ball exploring Canada and North America, and are currently skiing every weekend. We are heading back in August, and I'm really looking forward to catching up with everyone after a long and happy 10 years!
Hope you are all well, and hopefully I'll see most of you soon!
